If you look at UOAs for regular Mobil 1, it shears down very quickly. It seems like it doesn't hold up well in performance engines from what I have seen. It might be OK in a Camry but there's much better performing oils out there that I would use for the s2k.
What are you calling "rather quickly"? Even dino oils will be perfectly suitable in an S2000 after 3-5K street driven miles. Most people running synthetic (like me) change our oil around 5,000 miles and UOA's would show that the oil could have gone a lot longer.
I've seen some UOAs show regular M1 shear down from a 30 to a 20 grade in only a couple thousand miles. It might have some service life left in it but that still wouldn't make me feel too great, especially if I'm tracking my car with that oil in the engine. There's plenty of oils out there that stay in grade much longer over time, seems like a simple choice to me but that's just my opinion.

I'd be real curious as to what caused that. M1 in a Yamaha R1 in track use may very well be trash after 2,000 miles. M1 in a street driven car? The most extensive oil analysis are done by sport bike guys...and if their oil analysis data points to most synthetic oils being similar over a normal oil change interval I will save my money and buy something that works for less.
