Default Am I supposed to burn oil?

I assumed that since the S2 is a performance vehicle that we were supposed to burn oil. I'm also pretty sure that I drive the car as it was intended to be driven. I heard we burn Mobil 1 moreso than other brands but im not convinced. I haven't changed my oil in 5k miles and it still looks brand new on the stick and the level is exactly the same. I can't even top it off if I wanted to... I have an 08 with 60k miles. Am I in the minority here or is it common for the later years to not burn oil as much? <I came from 1qt. a week, flames out the exhaust cars before the S2>.

Ap1's are known to be the ones that burn oil. I have an AP1 and burn a little bit every 1k miles or so. Maybe a quart every 4-5k miles or something.
Haven't heard much about the newer AP2's burning much if any oil.

i'm thinking inproperly broken in motors tended to burn more oil later on in their life cycles and the less higher reving ap2's used even less oil, it's great you aren't using extra oil...

I have an 06 with almost 55k miles. I got my oil changed at Honda (synthetic blend) at 51,700 miles. It's been about 3k miles of driving, often spirited, and I also have not burned any oil so far.

I haven't burned a drop in my 13,500 miles on my 2008 S.

For those of you who lust after Porsche Caymans/Boxsters see this link to just one of many posts on one of their forums discussing the same topic:

http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...nsumption.html

Can you imagine if Honda were to allow those types of tolerances on any of their cars?! I used to want a Boxster really bad, but now I just check in on planet9 for the entertainment factor provided by these guys that will put up with absolutely crappy dealers and a manufacturer that does not give a rats about their customers, obscene maintenance and repair costs, and all the while, they still try to justify their purchases and defend their money pits at all costs.

Makes you happy you got one of the greatest Hondas ever made while they were still making them!

I'm convinced that AP1's were built a little looser than the modern AP2. BUT this was never a design flaw by Honda but a rather typical solution for high reving engines of that period. AP1 owners just need to be a little more vigilant on oil levels than AP2 owners. Other than tat, reliability should be equal.

Yea, it also depends on the oil.

My MY02 will literally gulp down Mobil 1...like a quart every 1K. That was true of all 3 AP1s I've owned. It's even more true now that I'm supercharged.

If I use other oil, usage is pretty normal...to the point where I might need to add a fraction of a bottle during a change interval.

I use Mobil 1 in my AP2. Like I said above....not a drop. From all I've read over the years, I think it's just a difference of AP1 vs AP2. Honda knowingly made the change.

Honda put a splash plate in th ap2 valve cover. Ap1's lost oil but to the pcv valve set up. Krank vents solved that problem.
