He meant inexpensive for the part. It looks fairly time consuming, hence the high price of getting it done. I'd start with a valve adjustment if you haven't had one for a while, then look into a chain tensioner.

/\/\/\/\ Ah, its not too bad, took me about an hour from start to finish and with a friends help...
Once you get the stock box removed, if u have one, its a matter of removing bolts and old tensioner, then installing new one, setting the piston, and bolting it back in...
Not bad at all and trust me Im not a mechanic at all...
Just used this excellent site for all the info...

I bet its the injectors. If its coming from beneath the black plastic cover to the right of the valve cover, its the injectors. If it sounds like a baseball card in the wheel of a bike, its the tensioner.

Might be the valves, which you can adjust yourself with some plastigauge.. not too difficult. If this has never been done, you may want to do it anyway.

theres a little bit of noise comming from under the black plastic cover, but more so, theres noises which seem to be comming from the back of the motor closer to the IM side and sounding close to a poker card in a bike's wheel spokes. Also I am noticing that the motor isnt quite too still when idling, it mooves a few militres and shakes the car a bit (is this normal?? for got to mention that earilier).

FYI I've got the car going in monday for a valve alignment.

The tensioner is located at the front passenger side of the valve cover under the VTEC solenoid...
Keep in mind now that the S2000 does have a more noisy valvetrain than most other cars...
The spark plugs and valve adj. are general maintainence procedures that prob should be done 1st, but the tensioner is known as a premature wear item on our cars...
From my experience, after I changed the tensioner, the unusual noise from my engine bay went away... I have not adjusted my valves nor changed my spark plugs...

changed the spark plugs a week ago with factory spec ones. I'll see what the valve adj does and then I'll do the tensioner after.

Are there any other parts which are "premature" wear items, or should be changed outside of fluids? (i.e. fuel filter, etc)

if you have ethanol in your gasoline, fuel filter should be changed pretty regularly.. I plan to do it every second oil change, or 12-15k miles.
