am i f*cked? [[[UPDATE]]]
So about an hour ago I leave for school....as I merge onto the freeway and get up to speed, at about 45-55 mph I hear a loud THUNK, then a loud whirring/knocking sound coming from the rear. At first I thought I hit something, but upon closer inspection I assume its either transmission/rear differential related...I put it in gear nothing happens...I try to accelerate while in gear whirring/knocking sound from rear starts up...am I f*cked? Damn I have a midterm today too! Any inputs? I'm hoping its's just the fluid because if not then I'm carless for at least a month Thanks in advance! peace (2002 AP1 75,000 miles) p.s. Anyone know of any socal car rental locations that dont require a deposit? broke baller yo! lol
[[[UPDATE]]]
hey guys well it turns out I am f*cked and it is my rear diff...now due to low funds I'm gong to have to rebuild it myself. I have not rebuilt a rear differential before, and couldn't find a diy for it. Anyone know of one? I'm very hesitant to tackle it before I have the right info/tools/procedures as it is/was my DD, short on time, and can't afford for it to break-down post-rebuild. So for from forum trolling the information I have gathered is:
- honda s2000 service manual is a must
- backlash/clearances need to be precise (any better than oem specs?)
things you guys think that is a mandatory replacement?
things you guys think can be re-used if still good?
parts/tools/procedures you guys would recommend for the repair?
I'm tired of sitting in my car on jackstands and making V-TEC noises lol! Thanks in advance! peace

I heard that exact same description when I shifted from 3rd to 4th but I didn't accelerate just a boom/thunk......then the sound you described.
DIFFERENTIAL SPLOADED!(yes I spelled it right sploaded) Sorry for your loss.

i highly doubt it was his axle while he was moving from a roll, if it was a launch or a burnout then i would be pointing in that direction.
and your fluid "going bad" wouldn't cause you to not be able to use your differential, so it's going to be expensive
X2 on the Fluid
