Can't help you Alex, but I will say that we changed 4 tires and the front brake pads out on an ITR in 25 minutes yesterday. The brake swap we actually did in about 5 minutes.

I had never done one before and didn't realise how easy it is.

But definitely do it yourself, it is so easy, it is stupid to pay someone to do it for you.

And turning rotors is nothing but a cash grab for hapless customers that don't know any better.

The surface is work-hardened & difficult to cut through. A deeper cut might work better.

A good friend of mine has been wrenching on cars since before WWII. He always laughed at how mechanics never use to turn drums & rotors until the salesman sold them all brake lathes. Then every brake job got turned, the lathe got paid off, and the shop owner had another place to make a quick buck.

Per his advice I don't turn brakes unless they are warped.

Brakes on my Grand Prix GTP pulsated dangerously at 77k miles (brakes changed at 50k). It was so bad over 55 mph there was no way I could have braked hard. Under 45 it was barely noticable. I got an oil change and a disc grind for $66. Brakes where just like new after that.

I would wait until they are they are bad before getting it done. I sold the car to my mom after I bought the S2k. I plan to keep track how they hold up. She drives alot of miles in the country, alot of 60 MPH to stops, or when I owned the car, alot of 70 MPH to stops.

funny but I have the same "problem"..after 2 track days, each 6 x 20 minutes runs and bad 130-60mph braking each lap (Dubai Autodrome) my brake pads were "toasted" and on my drive home the was this metal on metal sound that did not go away till now.It felt like the rear brakes are blocked. Car was in body workshop anyway since we had a "little" bang with a Eclipse so I have purchased a new set of brake pads (OEM). The discs in the front looked like a vinyl LP after a DJ on crack scratched them to death. "Cutting" one set of disc costs me 30USD so I have done it in the rear as well. Anyway, next month I am getting Spoon drilled front disc and CC-X brake pads. I have Neuspeed brake lines at home, do u guys think they will help on braking performance or just the pedal feel?
I cutting the brake discs really sooo baaaad?Even if there is noticeable damage on the surface?
and dont get me wrong, but do not recomend to mess around with brakes to someone who has never done this before...if you f*ck up a shift knob installation, its still fine, but if you do it with your brakes, there is no RETRY or LOAD A SAVED GAME
