Default Airbag removal question:

Like the topic says, I'm trying to remove my passanger side airbag cover but I'm not sure how. The manual I bought on CD doesn't work so I thought I'd try here. Just need to know how to remove the passanger side airbag COVER.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure how to get just the cover off from above--maybe a electrical tape wrapped flathead screwdriver? From below is pretty easy, though, and will not mar the surface. Unplug the neg. terminal on the battery, pull the lower plastic cover in the passenger footwell and look up in there--two or three bolts hold the airbag in. Unplug the airbag, remove the bolts and push the airbag up, then pop the cover off and reinstall the airbag in reverse order.

Another method which may be easier is to crash the car head-on into a light standard, and the cover should open on its own.

I'm at work and do not have my Helm manual, but I "think" the airbag cover is integral with the airbag module. You must remove the whole module with cover attached. Getting the module out has a very specific procedure. Failing to follow the correct method can be very hazardous to your health.

edit: I have now checked the Helm. I was correct. The cover is integrated into the airbag module. The whole thing comes out as a unit.
Bottom line: You cannot remove just the cover.

^ Have you done this? My previous post may indeed be wrong but I'm of the impression that without an airbag present, the SRS system cannot complete its startup diagnostics and will see that there is discontinuity where the airbag used to be and throw a light.

When you get the cover off, find the wiring wrapped in a yellow sleeve. Cut the brown wire and jump it to battery voltage. Just make sure your face isn't right over it.

Gotcha! I'd still like to know if he's removed only the cover.
