The air pump weighs 54 oz without relay.
I reinstalled the stock ecu which has been out for many months. I have had no cel yet, despite no air pump! Perhaps given time, the ecu 'lost' its memory settings and will only throw a cel for air pump if the resistance differs from one start to another?
So far so good.
Update:
So much for that theory.
Cel light came on after about the fourth start.

I'm thinking about removing the air pump as well 'cause it interferes with the routing of the brake duct. If not, it looks like I can bend the whole thing foward an inch to create more room.

I replaced the air pump apparatus and reset the cel by battery disconnect. I stuffed the pump back in the area next to the brake duct, and secured the pump with wire.
The work can be done without removing the bumper; just release the part of the flap of the wheel well liner which is under the compartment. Work from below with the car on stands.
It probably will take a couple of cold engine starts to really test if I put everything back correctly, and not get the cel.
I think I am ready for smog check which might be due later this year's license renewal.

UPDATE
I re-installed the relay assembly (not the pump) and so far no check engine light. Car has been restarted (cycled) about 15 times, no check engine light yet. If the light comes on, I'll throw in a resistor. Woo hoo!
