Air Pump / Misfiring
I'm no mechanic so bear with me and let me describe my situation. Hopefully someone can help. I took my car to the dealer about a year ago and they told me they were seeing misfirings on one of my cylinders. I believe they replaced a spark plug (and maybe coil) at that time. They also told me I had a bad air pump and air pump relay. They said it wasn't critical but that I needed to get it fixed to pass admissions and that it would cost about $1000 bucks.
My check engine light has been on for some time and I finally got around to taking it in to my mechanic yesterday. He said that he was seeing misfirings on all cylinders which leads him to think there is something else that is the root of the problem, versus all the plugs and coils being bad. I haven't noticed that car drive any different. He also said the car has no air pump so he isn't sure what the dealer is talking about.
Has anyone heard of a similar situation or have any idea what is going on? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have found injectors to be the most common cause of misfires. If you have a p0301 for instance swap #1 injector to cyl # 4 and see if the it sets a code p0304 for cyl 4 misfire. If it follows then you know you have a bad injector. There are of course many times it won't follow so you have to eliminate your possibilities by checking valve clearances, plugs, and coils etc.... More often than not it is a clogged or just bad injector. Hope it might help.
