If the compressor motor kicks in, quit using the impact until the compressor fills the tank and shuts off. I use an IR 231 on a compressor with a smaller tank and about the same air production; I have to wait but can get the job done for anything I've encountered.

If you remove the center cap, you can access the axle nut through the center of the wheel. With the wheel on the ground, the e-brake set, and maybe the wheels chocked, you get a solid platform to work with if you put the jack handle on the breaker. But be careful: you don't want to be injured if the breaker snaps.
I use the same impact gun ^, worked very easily with an average size compressor, I bought the gun specifically to tackle this project and it worked flawlessly, it saved me a lot of aggravation so it was worth the expense.

When it doubt, get a bigger breaker bar

My brother and I have one, we referred to it as "the Super torquer" which was basically a 4 foot long piece of scrap steel tubing. Slide it over the ratchet and hope that either the bolt comes off, the bolt breaks, or the ratchet breaks. Usually the bolt comes off... (or in this case, nut)

i tried this method like i usually do and this axle nut was not budging. i had a 3 foot pole attached to my craftsman breaker bar i broke two of those and two ratchets. then i applied the torch.. mine was extremely tight.

Of the 4 axle nuts that I've removed, three came off with my battery powered impact wrench. One of them broke a 3/4 to 1/2 adapter and wouldn't budge. I drove it to my local shop and their monster impact knocked it off in about 5 seconds. I then tightened it enough to drive the car home.
