I'm using a C&L filter for a 04 Cobra Mustang... it takes up about 3/4 of the OEM box and I think costs around $30. And I actually had dyno proven gains from it haha

Dumb argument imo. Better filtering means less air too. K&N is fine, and engine oil catches any dirt that gets by the filter. UOAs show no impact on dirt in the engine in my experience.

I've used the stock PCX003 filter and the K&N drop-in filter off and on over the years. I decided to get away from the oiled reusable filters that you have to apply oil after cleaning and went with the AFE Pro Dry S filter a little while back. I like it so far, but haven't tried to clean it yet. Here it is if you're interested:

There are some users of the oiled cotton gauze filters that do see an increase in the silicon levels on UOAs. The aFe dry filter does have the similar air horn/ velocity stack like the stock part. The also have this mesh that makes the filter media pretty stiff.

How many higher HP s2k's are using the OEM box? None, end of discussion. You should see some of he intake set-ups people run on the H22's. Crazy stuff.
Being FWD, the location of the airbox for the H22 isn't ideal for airflow, and the flow path is long and winding. Honda didn't take the time to optimize the design and tuning, because they were too busy with the F20. The airbox in the S is front and center with much more direct air flow.

K&Ndrop in after 6 years it is nice to not have to pay again and again and it is a snap to clean...a tad more noise and a tad more pickup/less heat bog...nice.
