Age of Oil
Hi,
I have an unopened tranny fluid (1qt). I will be replacing my tranny fluid soon and obviously will need an extra 1qt bottle. If I buy another qt, it will either be newer or older oil compared with the one I already have. What effect will it have if I combine different age oils? Should I just buy two quarts and chuck my unopened bottle? Am I just being obsessive compulsive, LOL?

The unopened can of oil will last a lifetime and more. If it were opened the oil still wouldn't go bad but would have a chance at contamination and the possibility that the additives are volitle and could evaporate. Even if it is Hondas old formulation, I would personally use it along with the new and improved stuff. There was nothing wrong with the now outdated MTF but things do continually improve. It would seem a waste to me to throw a perfectly good quart of oil away.
