afe filter nipple thingy...

afe filter nipple thingy...
Just threw in an AFE filter, but the little nipple on it is much larger than the stock filters. Is it necessary to get that in?? I assume it's just to stabilize the filter, but i don't see it as being very necessary...

ehh....then i'll just turn up the stereo
i got some teflon grease i'll try and lube it up with later....i just wanted to make certain that it wasn't any sort of air return or something...

A side note:
If you look at the end of the filter that goes into the intake tube, is it slightly tapered? There is also no clamp to hold the filter tightly into the intake tube. With the temperature extremes of the engine bay, that rubber pin may help to keep a tight seal onto the tube. Everything "could" expand and with vibration, the filter could slide away from the tube, losing the seal and allow unfiltered air to enter the engine and I'm sure you've seen how dirty and gritty the inside of the airbox can get.
