That's interesting info, but I do know that the guys on the board that know everything about S's seem to prefer the AFE's. I think there is a thread somewhere that shows that the AFE is superior in all aspects to K&N. Plus, isn't the K&N a universal filter, where as the AFE is S2000 specific?

I have had the KN FIPK and I have now switched to AFE. Im liking the AFE a little bit better.
I trust Mugen, and Mugen uses AFE filters!

if its just your personal opinion than thats fine!
but just because mugen uses them dosent mean anything, it seems like your having some sort of fitment issue with the AFE??

A problem I had with KN in the past was that it was letting too much stuff in and messing up the Mass Air Sensor.
The reason I trust Mugen is because I know they understand our cars a lot better than say KN or AFE or any aftermarket part company. Aftermarket companies mod thier part to fit different applications, as opposed to Mugen where the part is made and tailored for the application.

Its really hard to compare since I am using the KN FIPK comparing to the AFE in the stock box.

but S2k's dont have mass air sensors.....
and if anyone ruins a mass air sensor due to a K&N filter, it wasnt oiled properly when it was clean, I.E too much oil.......

From the discussions I've read on the boards, it seems that the guys who really know all of the technical aspects of our cars deem AFE or JR filters the best.
Interesting thread:

I had at one point found a decent comparison done by a professional business that tested flow and cleaning of air filters. Can't find the link now. The K&N didn't do that well because it passed so much dirt. The two links above were kinder to K&N.
The second link showed 4 filters which all made about the same HP. So it doesn't seem to matter much which filter you end up buying.

I am running an AFE filter in my Comptech box and am happy with it. The filter seemed to be of very high quality. I'd love to see an AFE and K&N drop-in air filter side by side for my own personal comparison. People who have used both seem to prefer the AFE though. I think both are probably very high quality and high flowing filters. BlownAP - Do you have any hard data proving K&N's superiority?

but the AFE isnt in any of those tests.
also on another note, the mugen currently comes with an AFE filter.
purchase a mugen intake in a few months and it will be provided with a K&N, i dont know the reason for the switch, but it was made. it might take a few months depending on how long it take to get them on the shelves..
also same goes for Apexi', they made the switch too
and for those that didnt know, GruppeM= K&N in japan
