Default AEM V2 After Install

Hi guys last weekend I had my AEM V2 installed on my 04. My regular shop installed it for 100 even. My problem is since i got it installed i feel like my car has gotten slower. Im not sure if its in my head or not but the car doesnt impress me at all in the straight line speed area. Since the install i have noticed that the car sounds pretty much the same until you floor it. The power seems to be missing around the 3-5k region, while vtec is still kicking in. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

strange I wonder why this would happen. I don't see what they might have messed up on during install, but I did mine myself, and the instructions are very easy to follow. Normal driving the car should sound the same, plus a bit of a whistel coming from the intake side(love that noise). Once you floor it it should start screaming, deep growl, that should get louder once 6K hits. I would say the car doesn't gain much from the intak, so if you were expecting to go pull harder then maybe the act it doesn't is making you think the car is slower(making noise but not pulling faster). The intake to me felt like the car just revs more smoothly, and I do feel that vtec hits a bit harder then before. Although I will say that the car feels much nicer pulling up top then it did before.

I don't know if you were looking for this kind of response, but try looking at the instructions, and see if they messed anything up. If not then it's probably all in your head...

yeah i wasnt expecting much if any increase in any power, but i think it may be the fact that its louder and doesnt move more thats messing with my head. Ill do the checks and drive it more and then see how i feel. thanks for the responses. Any others are welcome

Did you put on the bypass valve? Maybe that's what's making the car feel slower?

My AEM never sounds that dramatically different, even when it hits VTEC. The only extra noise I got from it was the whistling and recently, that sound went away too and the intake actually feels like it's choking my car, if that makes any sense. I'm probably just going to put the stock airbox back on. I mainly tried the AEM because I got it for dirt cheap.

Good luck with getting yours figured out.

When I bought my S2000 the previous owner has installed an AEM intake. I found out later that it was installed correctly, but not completely (according to the AEM instructions.)

The engine seemed to be running a little rich and the power just didn't seem to be there. I had the noise but lousey gas mileage.

I found out that the plastic splash guard is supposed to be removed so that air can get to the AEM filter. This wasn't done. The owner kept the splash guard and did not cut it so that the filter only had air coming in from three small holes.

I cut the plastic sides of the guard so that there would be airflow from the front grill, and also cut out the foglight hole and installed Grill-Tech mesh.

The car feels slight more powerful (subjective), and seems to rev more freely (subjective). But it is breathing better because gas mileage has gone from 19 MPG to 22 MPG with the same driving style.

Just in case, I also reset the CPU.

I don't know if resetting the CPU helped. I did disconnected the battery about 20 minutes (during stereo install).

I have heard that this can also be done by pulling the fuse.

Is there any difference?
