Default AEM Alteration

Do you guys think this will create a problem or would this actually work? Heres the idea:

Open up the vent in the bumper, and build a snorkel style object to attach one end at the opening, and the other onto the aem intake.

This would direct air like the snorkel do the AEM system, and it would also enclose the filter preventing any type of hydrolock. Since I dont intend on submerging my entire front end in water!

Heres my questions:

-Should I run a filter or just attach snorkel directly to the aem piping?
-Will this actually cause a loss in hp or damage engine?

Any input on this idea is more than welcome, I just feel like it would give the higher gains that is provided by aem while preventing from hydrolock, and possibly improving the air flow to the system.

i did this back when i had a 2000 si, i used 4" dryer duct hose and it fit perfect around the filter, just clamped it on. and the other end i just fiberglassed a 4" ring on the backside of the bumper, right behind the faux vent and just clamped it on also.

no problems with this? Seems like it would be a must do for anyone with an aem system since this prevents chance of hydrolock and brings the air directly from the outside of the engine area.

btw: i have my vents removed and replace with grillcraft inserts which i believe would flow more air then the vent things that come stock...
