Advice Please - S2000 in a Lotus7
Hi guys,
I've just committed to purchase an S2000 engine/gearbox to go in my Lotus7.
(UK Resident)
I love the idea of having controllable power and that's why I didn't opt for turbocharging my current ZETEC unit. Plus with the relatively light rear-end too much torque would see me sat at the lights generating large black puddles of tyre and not much forward momentum!
Anyway, I was wondering if people could give me the official info on what's needed to run a stock engine outside of a honda.
I've been told I'll need:
1) Engine
2) Gearbox
3) Wiring Loom
4) Ignition Barrel
5) Key
6) Clocks
I have also been told there is a way to disable the Immobiliser on the ecu - so that I can not use the clocks and ignition barrel etc.?
Basically, I just can't wait to get this all sorted and in
I'm also going to DRY SUMP the engine - has anybody else had any experience of who's good/not so good etc?
I'm looking at a PACE product at the moment - but happy to hear of any good products making a splash over the pond in the US
Thanks in advance for any help
Cheers,
Murray

I think there's someone that has already done this (or a similar build). I think they were from the UK, too. You might post in the UK forum and google for it, too... 'cuz I think they had a pretty detailed web page about their build-up.

You should get an aem ems. That way you dont need the immobilizer and you can tune the engine the way you want. You should have someone work on it that is very knowledgable with wiring

I've seen this done. The car was pretty damn fast, too, running at Thunderhill.
Sorry, I can't really give you any details on what was required to make it happen.
As for the immobilizer, if you use an aftermarket ECU then you don't have to deal with it. Your choice.
Be aware that while it does fit, it doesn't fit with much margin. You will have packaging issues to deal with.

Thanks guys - I'll go take a look.
I've found a company - an excellent company in the US that will fix my immobiliser problem and allow me to run with a stock ECU
The guy is called Brian Anderson and he's at WCM (www.wcmultralite.com), very reasonable too!
I realise the space is going to be tight and might need some bits moved and re-welded - but for an engine of this magnitude I think it's worth it. I'm trying to get the engine as far back as possible to help with weight distribution.
Ooh an AE86 with an S2000 engine - what a great car!
Cheers for the replies

Try the Mugen ECU, no immobilizer and no need to tune it. I assume you're not looking to tune it because you want to use a stock ECU. They are the closest to a factory tuner as you can get for Honda. I believe Mugen was actually started by Soichiro Honda's son.

Hi SenderGreen,
Thanks for that - I'll take a look around, although this company is only charging me $50 to remove the immobiliser hassle.
I'm getting everything from the car tomorrow (Thursday)
I'm not too worried about tuning to be honest - 240+hp in a car weighing 600kgs (1300lbs) should be enough fun and if not - I'll supercharge it in a couple of years (once the bank account has recovered! )
Cheers,
Murray
