Advice Needed as about to buy S2000
Hi All
Recently put a deposit down on a Honda S2000, wanted one for ages and had AA check it yesterday. To cut a long story short, they had a couple of issues with it (listed below) and I would really appreciate current owners advice on whether to purchase it. To note, car has done 50k miles, so advice on what else to look for would be great:
Essential Repairs Required Before Purchase:
1) Transmission operation/noise - There is considerable overrun vibration felt from the transmission. The sensation is most noticeable when decelerating from higher speeds. Indicates possibility that transmittion may need changing/attention
2) Clutch operation - Clutch operation is heavier than expected. Clutch may need renewing soon.
NB: The clutch centre plate may also be a contributing factor to the overrun vibration (above).
3) Air Con operation - Does not work
4) Boot compartment - Water present in boot compartment underneath tool tray. Investigate for water ingress.
5) Tyres - Honda use to be very particular which tyres they recommended were fitted to their S2000 models.
In the past they would only recommend Bridgestone Potenza 205/55R16 SO2 JZ 89W on the front and Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R16 SO2 JZ 92W on the rear.
The tyres fitted to this car are Bridgestone Potenza RE 040 205/55R16 91W on the front and Bridgestone Potenza RE 050A 225/50R16 92W on the rear.
Check with Honda if the tyres fitted to this car are acceptable. Renew tyres if Honda do not recommend the tyres fitted.

If it was me, I would check for the most important part of the car - F20C/F22.
Having 50k miles and being a high reving engine, I would deffinantly go get some tests done on it- compression, etc.
Once that is for sure, the rest can easily be replaced.
