I think Road Rage means they assembled the engine using Mobil1 motor oil.

Yes, that is what I meant: M-B uses Mobil1 as assy lube, which is what I said, not factory fill - I have seen it for myself - can anyone cite any assembly instructions or evidence (first hand or by reference) that Honda uses moly assy lube?

you will not see any assy lube on the crank, and can see oil drips on the block - when they install the rings, they are oil soaked.

Plus, the amount of assy lube would be small compared to adding an 8 oz bottle of after market stuff. Assy lube (when I rebuilt engines as a young man) was used on the high load areas: cam lobes, crank bearing journals, wrist pins.

This goes against all traditional engine building techniques. They must think that M1 is a magic potion or something OR, they must have tremendous faith in their hardware and methodology.

I dunno - the precision machining of parts in moderrn cars may make it less of an issue.

On the Crane site, look at the last product for Break-in - it is high in zinc/phosphorous compounds, which can be found in abundance in many syn and mineral oils.

The tech that I talked to said that these engines are assembled with a special lubricant. Like I said, when I drained my crankcase, It was big time grey. No, I dont have solid evidence at this point that Honda uses assembly lube to assemble these engines, but like I said, when I say my oil was gray, it was big time gray(definitly assembly lube)

I have heard of people using motor oil to assemble engines in the past. in fact I personally have done it myself.

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHH. Just change your oil! Do it now. Why wait for one year? Your oil doesn't have a calender.

Sorry. I go crazy about these break-in oil change threads. The "recommendations" are so contradictory. If you need this oil for 7500 miles, why should you change it at less than that amount of miles just because of the passage of time? The oil doesn't "soak in" over time. If the answer is to remove acidified oil, where is the replacement factory fill oil? Why doesn't the dealer have this on the shelf?

Please people. Stop the madness. Use a dino oil with moly like Castrol and be happy.

The tech also said they use just regular Honda 10w-30 motor oil.
