Default ACT HD PP issues

Dear UTH gurus,

I have an 06 with the ACT Heavy Duty pressure plate, OEM friction disc, and Toda flywheel.

My problem is that when the car is running and standing still I cannot put the car into ANY gear. Sometimes it will go into first or second but not reliably. When the car is moving I can upshift/downshift with no issues. I can also shift easily with the car off.

I have been told that the problem is the pressure plate is not fully disengaging the bearing. This is why my car will roll forward with the clutch all the way down and putting the shifter in first gear.

My questions are... has anyone else experienced this problem?
Is this just a pressure plate problem?
Any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks!!!!!

Hey Dan,

The first thing I'd do is bleed the crap out of the clutch hydraulic system. S2000 slave clutch cylinders are very difficult to bleed all of the air out of. Your symptoms are consistent with not enough throw on the release lever, and that can be due to incomplete extension of the clutch slave cylinder pushrod. Don't you hate it when you have incomplete extension ... .

One suggestion is to make sure the slave cylinder is oriented such that air will escape more easily. I forget whether that's nose down or nose up, but you should be able to figure it out.

A second possibility os that the clutch release lever is unseated. You can check this with the car in the air. Pull the rubber boot away from where the lever enters the transmission housing and make sure the fingers are engaged properly. Now is the opportunity to put a little grease on the ends of the fingers and where the pushrod engages the lever.

Thanks for the tip Doc!

Going to flush and bleed it tomorrow and put in new fluid. There is a chance I might have cooked it a bit at Sebring lol .
If this solves my problems Josh the drinks are on me

I had the same issue with a brand new Competition Clutch kit. The problem was that the PP was to thick and had to shaved down. I sent it back to Competition and they shaved it down and now it works like a charm.

I bought my AP1 used with aprox 38K miles on it.

I changed the clutch fluid at aprox 50k miles (looked to be the first time).

At about 63k miles I changed the clutch to the ACT PP / OE FD / Comptech FW.

Shortly after I had to replace my Clutch Slave and Master cylinders because the seals were shot. It appeared the old seals (possibly caused by leaving crap fluid in too long) couldn't handle the extra pressure.

I had this issue along with the rusted input shaft splines.

Yes, failure to lightly lubricate the input shaft can also result in the clutch not fully releasing.

Just to add in case anyone takes that the wrong way.

From my experience you need to clean off the rust on the input shaft , otherwise the lubrication will not last.
