i put some in and lube the filter, although it does drip out when i screw it on..

You will get mixed opinions on this because filling the oil filter will introduce unfiltered oil downstream from the filter, and it might cause some damage if a piece of debris gets in there.

Then others are not comfortable with not filling it because of the pressure drop on initial start up.

I fill it half way.

If your working in a clean area, like a garage and use quality brand oils, you should be fine filling it up some.

Not filling the oil filter is usually a best practice taught companies that purchase oil in bulk that gets delivered in a lube truck and they keep it stored in old tanks for sometime. So by the time it gets put in, it is usually dirty if it has not been filtered.

I just poir a little oil onto the filter ans spread it around with my finger to lube the filter gasket. When I do that, a little bit of oil gets into the filter.
