Is it a harsh cutout at 8000rpm? Or is the engine just struggling at that point?

I would just call the part number in, see if its for an ap1. If so, just buy a new one, and get your key programed to the new one.

F22 actually go to 8300 and if they did a motor swap they didn't have to change the ECU for it to run. In which case it'll go to 9K without hesitation. Some AP1 F22 conversion guys run the old ECU and claim no issues with 9K red line.
are you sure its 8300? ive heard it was 8200....for ap2s

I say do some modding THEN get your ECU straightened out. :-)

^^ Maintenance before modding man, or fix problems instead of making new ones with added parts. No point in making your car faster or somthing if you cant even redline it.

Typo, it's 8200. Clicked the 3 last night when when I should have hit 2.

The world is now at ease.

stupid suggestion but putting it on a dyno hooked up will give you an outside opinion on whether or not your hitting 8000 or 8200 or 9k. I've never heard of the dash lights being faulty but I would assume its possible.

im sure its the ECU. i mean when the engine is cold and you try to vtec it stops you at 6k. and you say its stopping at 8k. so maybe you have a ap2 ECU and you are hitting "fuel cut off"
