you have to remember that although the coolant/water temp is at normal operating conditions, the engine oil takes a longer time to warm up. you also have to consider the time it takes for the entire drivetrain to warm up (from tranny to rear differential and everything in between).
took the words right out of my mouth, cannot stress this enough. Just because the second you hit three bars the ecu will let you vtec, DOES NOT mean the oil is properly warm. You should be glad it was not letting you redline when cold.

i've also seen some people who let their cars idle for 15 minutes or so, thinking their car is fully warmed up and then go out and redline every single gear. little do they know that the drivetrain is still cold since it wasn't being driven at all.

its your car, do whatever you want but don't come back here and complain about it.

Even if coolant has three bars on its temp, car is STILL not fully warmed up because oil temp rises much slower than coolant temp.

A lot of people have wondered why Honda did not make a better limiter. I.E-- instead of not letting you go over 6-7k rpms until you get three bars, make it to where you cannot go over 6-7k until 3 bars and a certain amount of drivetime. However, I think people should exhibit better common sense not to rev the heck out of a car that isnt fully warm.

the s2000 really needs an oil temperature gauge due to its high revving nature.
