7k Is all I get

Don't feel bad..... a lot of us have done the same thing.....
Might not be taking it to 9k.... but any attempt at vtec without 3 bars on the temp gauge will cause what yoou experienced.

This isn't something that I routinely do. I had the car at work and my boss wanted to take a ride. We hoped in, he needed to feel the 9k rush we all talk about and was short changed. I have had many sports cars in my life, never blown any engines. I appreciate the helpful information. The sarcasim and attempts to flame are unnecessary.

In all honesty, NO car should ever be driven hard before having a chance to properly warm up. S2000 or other. But especially the S2000.

To be honest, I kinda wonder why you'd even try to rev to 9k until the engine was properly warmed up?

I never hit the cold temp rev limiter, but it takes practically no time at all for the car to fully warm up to three bars (on an '03). It takes me about one city block's driving distance to get there, provided I do it during spring or summer.

you have to remember that although the coolant/water temp is at normal operating conditions, the engine oil takes a longer time to warm up. you also have to consider the time it takes for the entire drivetrain to warm up (from tranny to rear differential and everything in between).

Yes, I am aware of that. Then again, I don't VTEC during my commute in the morning with the kid in the car.

If you have been on two for a while and try to VTEC before three it might VTEC, it might not.
The coolant temperature at which it will VTEC is known by the computer, but it hits that temp before the threshold of activating the third bar on the dash.
