Well guys - problem solved. @s2000Junky called it! I re-gapped them and went for a spin and the car pulls hard all the way to redline now. This is my first time dealing with an FI car that was originally naturally aspirated, so I learnt something new!

I worded my previous statement badly, the VTEC window setting means that the crossover point is variable within that range depending on engine load - i.e. one crossover point for WOT and one for partial. I'm planning on having the car retuned by Jeff Evans this summer anyways, after I swap the grams injectors for ID1050s.

Next time I'm connected to my FlashPro tuned car I'll have to look at the VTEC range. I only notice the 3600 rpm number after tuning. The car will stay on the low power/economy can at least to 4500 rpm when cruising (80 mph is about 4200?) at partial throttle and responds with VTEC with the gas pedal any point over 3600.

Factory is roughly 6k any throttle position at that point. 4500 would be too low wasting fuel/unnecessary. Id raise the threshold to around 6k if it were me.

FWIW, as it was mentioned, I experienced spark blow out on my boosted Miata after I had installed an aftermarket crap coil pack. I was only running like 10psi and coils were known weak points in the Miata world. I've not read much about boosting s2000's but perhaps something to look into.

How is it wasting fuel if vtec only engages at near wot? When you lower vtec rpm, you still don't engage vtec in normal driving, even at rpm's well above vtec threshold.

My VTEC is set for 3600 rpm at WOT and I still get 300 miles on a tank of fuel. But a LOT more mid range power. NA car. Significant improvement in acceleration. So much that I installed an audible alarm to avoid hammering the rev limiter on every on-ramp.

FWIW Gernby set my window at 3600/lower - 6400/upper in Flashpro and it works great.

You misunderstand. My response was based on Chuck S saying his vtec comes on at 4500 *in low/partial throttle*. it should be raised to near factory rpm. There is no benefit to having it come on at 4500rpm, but some detriment if you happen to hit that rpm at low throttle/cruising. For one thing, you dont want to be running on the primary sensor/closed loop when vtec comes on. 6k rpm switches to open loop and engages vtec at any throttle position, that works from the factory and should be set around this with an aftermarket ecu. 3600rpm works great for engagement 40% to WOT threashold depending on breathing mods.

Throttle position to advance ignition and engage secondary lobe needs to be correct to max out the advantages with low torque high rpm engine.
