5W30 SYNTEC ON AP2
#11
Nice and with your experience, what is the best oil grade on syntec for my ap2 in cold winter -30 celcius and hot summer30 celcius you recommand to use all year around?

For your car, I'd prolly use full synthetic (Edge) 5W-30.

For -30c temps my preference is a 0W-30. I use Amsoil Signature Series 0W-30. Yeah, it's probably overkill but I really extend my oil change intervals.

0W30 or 0W40 Castrol Edge would be a good choice.

0w:30 edge is actually thicker than 10w-30 at operating temperature, it's more made for diesel engines. Works fine in the car though, if you read the material sheet for castrol edge, the 10w-30 actually is tested to a higher European standard than either 0w 30 or 0w 40. A5/E. To be honest the 0w-30 works up to -45 so I agree that would probably be the oil of choice. The s2000 works well with oil up to ~14cts +-.5 at operating temperature so 0w 40 would just work.

Yep. 0W30 is thinner at cold temps and thicker at operating temp compared to their 10W30. Their 10W30 is a great oil. I think that Syntec/Edge 5W30 is a bit on the thin side for S2000 use.

In layman's terms you're saying that the "30" in XW-30 defines an acceptable viscosity range for "hot" oil which is not related to the "cold" temp viscosity ranges defined by the number before the W. Some oils can be on the high end of one range and the low end of the other, so you can't assume a 0W-30 is thinner at 100c than a 10W-30 and in many cases it isn't.

I see. So you labeled my post misinformation and fail because I said 5W30 would be fine for DD use? And that I personally wouldn't use Castrol's 5W30?
