5w20 engine oil long term?
I had a momentary cursing fit (more like barely audible unintelligible muttering in my garage) when I looked at the recipt from a recent Honda dealer oil change that said it was filled with 5w20. A search on the forums revealed that this stuff has been used by dealers for several years instead of the manual spec 10w30 or 5w40. Has anybody been actually using this long term? 5w20 at 9000 rpm in the summer? Perhaps for summertime on Pluto.

This is why I try to do as much maintenance as possible on all the vehicles I own. By doing it myself I know what fluids have gone into my vehicles, what was inspected, what was not, etc. I have not yet found a dealer service department that can keep track of the requirements for all the vehicles they sell and service and perform the correct maintenance when a customer brings in a car. Just look on this site for all the instances of wrong fluid being introduced to the S2000 differential, attempts to sell customers the wrong oil filter, oil drain plugs being left loose to fall out in the street and trash expensive engines, and follow-on attempts by service managers to blame the customer. I think I can do better, and I bet you can, too!
By the way, when I went to all the local Honda dealers to get drain and fill gaskets for my transmission and differential fluid changes, they didn't have any. So if I had taken my S2000 to those dealers to have my fluids changed do you think they would have used new gaskets? Do you think they would have charged me for new gaskets?
