Wherever you live really does not affect the kind of oil you use. HOW you drive the car can.
A big issue is start up wear. A "0"W-XX is the best out there for that. Once the oil warms up to operating temp, say a 30, they are all the same viscosity. I use Mobil! 0-30 and I am in a warmer (for start up) climate.

All of my 5 cars listed below have used Amsoil since 1st Oil Change....a combined total of 457k miles AND 50 years of combined service.
03S2k,02Z06 & 96GST use 0w30 while the 02CRV and 13EXV use 0w20.
