Default 5W-20?

Hi, is 5w-20 acceptable for MY04? The dealership gave me 5w-30 on previous oil change. Today I went to another dealership and I think they put in 5w-20. I would like to get some inputs whether I should take the car back. I hope no harm has been done. Thanks.

I would say NO. 10w30 is the proper weight for this car. It says so right on the oil cap. I wouldn't even use 5w30 unless you drive your car regularily in below freezing temperatures, which of course isn't an issue in Houston.

5w20 is mainly used to increase fuel economy (There was a big "conspriacy" about Ford and Honda using 5w20 to raise their overall fuel economy ratings for their brands).

5w-20 is like water. In Houston, you'd be fine with 10w-30 just about year' round. You could probably go with a 10w-40 in the summer time since it gets pretty hot there.

Anyone know what weight oil you should use when your FI (turbo that is)? Because of the added heat I was thinking 15w50. Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Another question: is 15400-PLM-A01 a new filter?

Thanks.

Your dealer must consider that your S2000 is like every other Civic or Accord they get in. Do you think your S2000 is like a Civic or an Accord?
It might be time to find another dealer who might be just a "little" bit more in tune with what an S2000 needs.

You should be using 10W30, maybe 10W40 for a turbo. You have very small oil passages going to the cooling jacket of your turbo (or S/C for those who have these). A 15W50 won't flow efficiently to the cooling jacket until it gets HOT. Are you willing to risk poor lubrication from the time you can actually VTEC to the time the oil gets HOT?

No. It'll most likely work, but not as well the proper one. The S2000 is supposed to take a "PCX" type.

the PLM filter is the generic Honda filter used on (most) all of their cars. It'll work, I used one for one of my oil changes. But I would suggest using the PCX oil filter in the future. Since I would demand that they change to the proper oil weight, they should also take this opportunity to use the proper filter.

Thanks for all the info. Does the pcx filter come in blue? I read it somewhere about it being blue and bigger in size but couldn't find the thread. I'll definitely bring the car back to the shop and see what they can do about it. Thanks.
