Default 5th gear problems please help (and i have searched)

so last night i was driving on the highway and missed the shift into 4th gear. now the car will not stay in 5th gear at all, as soon as i put any pressure on the gas pedal it jumps out of gear in neutral. i am very mechanically inclined and can work on it. i am just wondering if if i broke some teeth of the gear or if i bent a fork or messed the syncros up??? anyone have any ideas? oh ya its an 01 with 73k on it.... please help.

Could you post a little more detail. Figure that will help people in providing suggestions. Were you down-shifting from 5th to 4th? or upshifting from 3rd to 4th?

Did you have the clutch all in? Did you rev-match if down shifting? Did you shift too fast when upshifting?

There is a TSB out there to rectify the issue. You will have to regrease the shifter.

That TSB info is on the site but I believe is only available to members. You could alternatively talk to your dealer and ask for a goodwill consideration.

Check this out if you are mechanically inclined

thanks for the info. I pulled apart the shifter and reset it, and found something about forcing it into gear while the motor is off. did that and now its back to normal.

Glad it worked out. Do be smooth going forward. The S2000 does not handle rough very well. Smooth inputs will be rewarded though
