5th Before 6th???
If I don't go to 5th before I go to sixth I get a grind. I can sometimes go from 4th but usually go to 5th first, is this normal?
Also I occaisionally get a grind going into 2nd if I redline it, is this normal?
Thanks

It's not normal but it happens. You shouldn't be skip shifting. This has been advised by "Woodwork", who is with Honda USA's tech headquarters in California. His dept looks after tech issues with the S2000 and NSX.
Basically, you are beating the syncros and making them work harder when you skip gears. It can be done without any problems but you must give due consideration to matching revs with the output shaft speed of the gear you are going into. Skipping gears makes this difficult.
Grinding at redline in the 1-2 shift is also a known occurence, especially when the tranny is hot. You might benefit from better clutch/throttle/shifter coordination to avoid this. You can also consider changing your tranny fluid more often and doing a clutch fluid change and slight adjustment of the pedal travel. All these things will help to minimize this grind.
ps. This question was not really a technical one but since I included some technical answers, I'll not move it to "S2000 Talk".

I tend to skip 4th or 5th quite a bit, which you may be convincing me not to do, xv. When you mention matching revs with the output shaft speed, does that mean you can still be stressing the drivetrain if you, for example, shift into 6th from 3rd after letting the rpms drop to match what is normal for that particular speed in 6th gear?

Good info. I'm pushing this car more than any car I've owned before to get what I want out of it, and I don't wan't to be 'abusing' it in the process. Sounds like I'm doing ok. The syncros in this car are amazing and keep the smile on my face.
