I buy the 5qt oil-change bottle and dump it in. Almost all the way to full. Anywhere inside the L and H marks is fine. The distance between them is exactly 1qt.

If you are concerned that storing oil for any amount of time will cause it to degrade, read this thread. Somebody did an oil change with circa 1985 Quaker State and sent in a sample for used oil analysis.

I love the 'gotta have fresh oil' nuts. One was at kragen last week when I was getting a tool. I laughed alot loud when he said it. He still proceeded to get the oil from the back of the row and left with a 5gal container.

Is it me, or do the few hundred s2ks I change oil on get 5.8-5.9 quarts of oil to put it to the full mark?????

bottom line:

Add 5 quarts, run it for 10 seconds, shut it off.

Wait one minute, check the level.

Add oil until it is FULL. (top of the top X)

As usual Bill is dead on. Mine is more than 5.1 qt. On this motor, which is sensitive to oil levels, top of hash is exactly where it goes and check it every other fill up.

Charge the new oil filter with 100mls(.1qt). Drain old oil ,remove old filter and replace drain plug. Screw new charged filter on and add the 5 qts. new oil. Done
