you'll need some oil for top up between changes, keeping the level near full at all times will protect you against oil starvation situations. Fill it up as needed and keep the extra oil for top-up , it never goes bad in a closed bottle.

Add till full and keep other oil for next time. I keep it in the trunk should I be short any when buying gas. Only once had to top up in 25K of owning my ap2.

lol....i see reason for concern....but just keep the partially used bottle for re-fills between changes?
as others said, this fluid is not brake fluid so you will be good if you keep it sealed
also, i have an Ap1 Helms and actually, the notes say the engine should be filled with 5 Quarts of oil. but once again, if you use your dipstick, a measuring tool given to us from Honda, to simply check what the car needs you will be fine. If you are worried about a severe overfill and getting frothy mixtures because of it, id simply fill some oil into the filter to prime it, then put the filter on the motor. then add what you know is deffinately ok to add, and slowly add your grey area..
i wouldnt see anything at all wrong with either 5.1 or 5 quarts fyi, and with no knowledge but simple concern i would venture to say that leaving oil would be more harmful than adding .1 quart too much which will most likely be burnt away in a week and a half anyway...but leaving the oil each time i could see working somewhat as a fuel pump might have to sort through gas which has been there constantly from several fill ups-often sourcing the fault of fuel pump
p.s. in summation, fill more oil into the filter to substitute for the .1 you are not and the oil will move through the filter anyway, use your dipstick, and keeping well sealed oil containers is more beneficial for mid top-offs than harmful at all.
