My MY2000 had 76k miles before it failed. It was very well cared for throughout it's life and failed without warning. I also received a new short block under the HondaCare extended warranty plan. for HondaCare.

Scored Cylinder 4
My s2000 is a 2002 with 42k. The only warning I got was that the engine started to sound like a 1977 AMC. Sounded like I had a major valve tap.

Unfortunately, I purchased this car based on Honda's rep, and did not do my homework!!! Right now my car is sitting at the Acura dealership where I bought it awaiting an adjusters inspection. I did love this car.

not really sure what you mean here...if you do your research you'll find that the S2000 is one of the most reliable sports cars ever made.

Well, as it turns out Honda is covering my Cylinder #4 problem. Now I need to make a decision as to what I should do with this car after I get the new engine.
There seems to be some people in this forum who feel that engine failures like the ones posted here are acceptable. My 02 had 42k, was not driven hard and was well maintained. As a rule are these V-TECS that fragile ?

I would really appreciate hearing what other owners are doing after Honda replaces the engine, what prevents a second failure ?

I dont know if there is a way to prevent it. This was a well documented problem and it alone convinced me to wait for a 2003. Since it is a known issue, is this issue covered on cars out of warranty? Prolly not, but it would be nice for Honda to cover this issue since it is a known issue.
