Has anyone put a 4.44 in a MY04+? That would be an equivalent of a 4.57 (12% shorter) in the first 4 gears in a pre MY04, correct?
I am pondering on swapping the 4.44 in my current MY00 into a MY05.

This write up is great!!!!
I just got my diff out but without taking out the axles. Took like 3 hours including a bunch of breaks and trips to the tool store.
Once I figured everything out it became much easier. If I had to do it again, on a lift this time and with some power tools, its like a 45 minute job.
This thread helped me a lot though, couldn't have done it not reading this first.

xviper,
just a quick question, i have 2006. would you suggest me to get a 4.44,4.57 or 4.77 gear ratio?
i drive my s2k every day, occassionally i go to the track wether its drag, slalom, road corse, or just fun run in the canyon.
w/c would be a more friendly set up for my car, so far i have this on my car:complete exhaust system (heders, tp,cat back), and spoon style snorkle, spoon filter, spoon 16x8 @ R and 16x7 @ F rims with potenza re050R tires.
tnx, i hope to hear from u very soon.

Sorry you won't be hearing from him very soon, as he isn't around anymore!
I'd suggest going with the 4.57's in your car. The AP2 Transmission is geard a little higher from the factory, equivalent to putting 4.3 gears in an AP1. X-viper installed 4.44's in his AP1. Most people do the 4.57's nowadays if they don't want the 4.77's. 4.57's are recommended for supercharged/turbocharged applications, while 4.77's are recommended for naturally aspirated applications. Do the math.... Your stock gearing plus 4.57 will net you a 4.87 compared to an AP1 S2000 like x-viper's. I would recommend that for you
Hope that helped!

tnx . no tork.
many people told me to get the 4.57 than 4.44 or 4.77 considering whats my intended purpose for the car. i just wanna hear more information from people who have more knowledge than me regarding the s2000's (ap1/ap2).
tnx again

im running the ap1 with 4.77. car has a ton more jerky feel to it, but nothing i would raise an alarm about. however it does mean higher rpms on the highway which is a little crappy on gas, specially @ $3.20 these days. was a fun learning experience tho. its easy easy easy with your "bible" or this post (i didnt know of s2ki when i did the swap), so long as your comfortable with tools and getting dirty. and plan on having to make multiple trips to autozone to buy doubles of tools you already have.
p.s. POP THE BALL JOINT!!!! it looks like you can get it off of there... but you simply cannot. and its not worth having to replace those knuckles.. the cars or your hands... lol
