Clutch issue would affect more than just 1 shift. Syncros have gone bad on your 3rd gear.

I'm willing to bet you have an AP-1.....

Tell me I'm wrong.

also, of note, the S likes to be shifted at 4-5K RPMs.

Honda MTF. 10w30 or 10w40 motor oil can be used in a pinch.

My AP1 really likes to be shifted at 8900rpm with a clutch/gas pedal maneuver so slick that'd take even the Shaolin Monk karate master years to replicate.

Cycle some fresh brake fluid through your clutch master cylinder and bleed it properly. Mine felt notchy going from 2 to 3 before I did that and felt better but not cured completely afterwards. I ended up readjusting the clutch switch and the clutch pedal height and stroke. The pedal was way too low - that fixed it for me.

I indeed have an AP1... good call.. I'll look into some syncros. I read somewhere that it could be my motor mounts also? idk how true that is.. and I shift my S in 4-5 rpm range of course.. but when I like to let loose sometimes at high rpms that grind comes.

in a quick shift WOT situation, most people do not fully press the clutch pedal during shifts. You dont necessarily need to with a fully maintained hydraulic system where full engagement comes before the pedal is to the floor. If air is in the system or the rod has not been adjusted, then it may require the pedal to be pushed all the way to the floor. (im not saying the OP is not an experienced driver). but i do think changing the fluid and bleeding the system along with a clutch rod adjustment would be the first thing to try before replacing a synchro

I'm partial to redline mtl. Flush your trans and readjust your pedal and clutch engagement to spec. Then see if it grinds still

I'd try some GM syncrhomesh fluid in there. I've read that its helped with slight scratches in gears

Probably just the synchros. My car does the exact same thing. Grind 2-3 but never 4-3.

change gears in two motion... so when you are going to 3rd from 2nd pause for less than a sec in neutral position before you put it to 3rd. Heavier shift knob helps too.
