2nd gear pops out on downshift - Honda won't cover
#11
Call Honda Care, your contract is with them, not your brain-dead dealer. The 800 # is on the card. If they won't give the authorization to fix it, they have an escalation system. Yes, you can return the policy for pro-rated refund. But...I would get the fix done first.

This is a well known ap2 tranny issue. There is a TSB on the issue.

I would look into this. I know several owners who had it done. Honda should cover this, show them the TSB.

looks like that was a TSB for 04-05 according to Honda. so technically it doesn't apply to my 06.
well i picked up my baby the other day figuring i would take her in for 30k service and hopefully that alleviates the problem. surprisingly 2nd gear hasn't slipped into neut yet. before it would happen when i downshift from 3rd > 2nd and right after it engages and the RPMs go up, POP... i'm revin the ish out of it and going nowhere.
so far so good. no poppin out of 2nd gear. still gonna get the fluids changed. crossing my fingers and hoping it doesn't happen again.
thank you everyone for their input! i've only been around 2wks and i'm already addicted to this community!

You should go to a different dealer if they are being stupid enough not to realize that.

What the hell is the point of the warranty if you gotta pay to MAYBE use it? I hear nothing but bad things about pre-owned certified used warranties. Seems like nobody is ever able to utilize them.
I vote for another dealer. Id goto every single dealership in your city.

I have an 05, I was ~30 cars inside of the VIN range for the service bulletin. My dealer did replace second gear for me. It took two attempts, after the first one it was worse and 5th was grinding. If you do have this service done ask your dealer to CAREFULLY compare the height of each gear during the replacement. They showed me the gears after the second fix and if you measure them they were ~.050" difference in height which lead to a stack-up problem on the main shaft. Anyways good luck, you may have troubles since by 2006 they most definiately tried to fix this problem. Any chances the previous owner did some bad mods?
