From Alpha 318 after 1 microsecond search:
Ok, so just checked the part numbers of the MTF.

Honda: 08798-9031
Acura: 08798-9031A

Both of these are the same fluid.

The bottle also has a white cap, which signifies that it is MTF-II.

There is a pdf file attached to the first post of the following thread. The pdf is a copy of an Acura service bulletin; at the very end, it has a section about MTF-II.

Thank you guys for the helpful info!

I just did the DIY tranny fluid change last night and now the shifting is much smoother but there is still that grinding. I guess it might be the synchrone or the clutch. ill check the clutch fluid later tonight. Would changing out the rear diff oil help? do you guys normally change it out with every tranny fluid change?
Did you read my post about adding grease into the shift lever?

yeah i read your post on lubing but i don't trust myself enough to go through that process haha, oil changes and fluid changes i can do but when it comes to dismantling things i tend to mess up. I'll probably see if i can take it to my local dealer and see what they charge for that service.

Thank you for the insight on the oil! that'll help settle a small arguement between a few of my buddies haha

Okay..so i haven't checked the fluid just yet but i do have a question..is acura MTF the same as Honda MTF??
yes - it's the same stuff and as good as any aftermarket products. however its only good for 10-15k depending on how you drive...

It's easier and safer than crawling under the car to change the trans fluid.

I've never changed oil in a car in my life and I was able to do the shifter regrease DIY.. hah

(I'd do my own oil changes if I didn't live in a condo)

Hi all,

Just bought my first 2005 Honda S2000 about 2 month ago. Already had my second and third gears grind a few times. Also, about a week ago I had my first gear pop out and I heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit me in the rear.
I did a lot of research in the past week and even called America Honda but no help from them either. They told me they never heard about this problem. I am about to replace my transmission fluid with original Honda manual transmission oil. My mechanic told this morning that it will be a waste of money if I went and replaced my transmission fluid. He told me it will not help. He said I need to rebuild my tranny. Did someone have the same problem? After replacing the transmission fluid, was shifting gears much smoother and no more gear grind? Or maybe I do need to rebuild my tranny? Thank you.

Clutch fluid and clutch adjustment has 3x the effect on 2nd gear grind than transmission fluid. trust me
I can completely stand by this statement, after bleeding my clutch thoroughly and cleaning everything very well, i NEVER grind 2nd gear anymore. Also makes my shifting smoother.

Suck old clutch fluid out of reservoir, put in new fluid, stir it with something to get all the crap off the sides of the CMC so it is floating around and can be sucked up. Once you do this, and then bleed the system with the fresh fluid, i bet you stop grinding those gears.
