2nd gear grinding
#11
From Alpha 318 after 1 microsecond search:
Ok, so just checked the part numbers of the MTF.
Honda: 08798-9031
Acura: 08798-9031A
Both of these are the same fluid.
The bottle also has a white cap, which signifies that it is MTF-II.
There is a pdf file attached to the first post of the following thread. The pdf is a copy of an Acura service bulletin; at the very end, it has a section about MTF-II.

Thank you guys for the helpful info!
I just did the DIY tranny fluid change last night and now the shifting is much smoother but there is still that grinding. I guess it might be the synchrone or the clutch. ill check the clutch fluid later tonight. Would changing out the rear diff oil help? do you guys normally change it out with every tranny fluid change?

yeah i read your post on lubing but i don't trust myself enough to go through that process haha, oil changes and fluid changes i can do but when it comes to dismantling things i tend to mess up. I'll probably see if i can take it to my local dealer and see what they charge for that service.

(I'd do my own oil changes if I didn't live in a condo)

Hi all,
Just bought my first 2005 Honda S2000 about 2 month ago. Already had my second and third gears grind a few times. Also, about a week ago I had my first gear pop out and I heard a loud bang. I thought someone hit me in the rear.
I did a lot of research in the past week and even called America Honda but no help from them either. They told me they never heard about this problem. I am about to replace my transmission fluid with original Honda manual transmission oil. My mechanic told this morning that it will be a waste of money if I went and replaced my transmission fluid. He told me it will not help. He said I need to rebuild my tranny. Did someone have the same problem? After replacing the transmission fluid, was shifting gears much smoother and no more gear grind? Or maybe I do need to rebuild my tranny? Thank you.
