Default 2nd gear grind :(

today i was crusing aroudn and desided to rip 2nd hard and i got a grind, and it didnt go into gear. i was not happy at all. i tried it again and it grinded but went it. then i tried it a 3rd time shifting a tad bit easier into 2nd at 8800 and it was perfectley fine! i dont get it. im using honda mtf and there is maybe 3-4k on the fluid. i NEVER power shift(flatshit) 2nd gear EVER. if i do powershift its usually 3rd to 4th. and rarely 2nd to 3rd. my car has 70k on it and ive had it since 50k. it has done this before with mtf, then with new fluid it usually doesnt do it until about 3k later. Is there any better transmission fluid then mtf for the transmission? like amsoil or redline? should i try gm syncromesh FM? there is a place down the road about 20 min that has a few quarts of that. i was told regular gm syncroesh was the wrong fluid. im just lost cause i hope im not losing 2nd gear when i never shift it real hard.

also 2nd gear is perfect along with all of the other gears just driving around. not 1 grind ever. even shifting at 6k its perfect.

Sounds like your MTF is shot. 3-5K miles is about right for MTF II. Either drain and refill, or try another fluid. AMSOIL MTF might work better (or at least longer). My experience with GMSMFM is that it lasts around 3K miles.

While you're changing the MTF, you might as well flush the clutch fluid too. That may help more than the MTF. Good luck.

how's your clutch ?, it couuld be dying out or may need adjustment, or your clutch master cylinder may be crapping out. Have a look under the clutch pedal and see if you find any drops of clutch fluid around the clutch rod. Never hurts to change the fluid, it's cheap maintenance in my books.

My clutch seems okay. It never slips. Grabs hard all of the time. Master cylinder was replaced at 57k along with slave. I think its the fluid. I'll try amsoil mtf. Thanks guys.
