2004 Transmission .Will it retrofit
Will the 2004 transmission match the 2000 to 2003 models? If so has anyone tried it?Seem like it would be great with stock gearing on 03 or older because If I'm not mistaken the first four gears in the 04 trans are lower and sixth is raised, correct if I am wrong? This would give the performance of 4.57's without the Ill effects on highway cruising. Is the cost the only problem?

So I believe that it will mate however it will not give the performance of 4.57 gears. The effective gearing of the MY04 tranny is close to 4.26 for gears 1-4....probably not worth the cost for the benefit....

Yeah , I know the diff is easier and more importantly much cheaper to replace.I would love to have the benefit of lower gearing to bring on the VTEC sooner . My problem with going to the Diff for gears is the RPM I would be running at 80 or 90 mph on my 50 mile drive to work. I think if I could find a 04 trans at a reasonable price it might be worth it to get the lower gearing for gears 1-4 and still have a low RPM cruising in gear 6.

Hi All:
I have a 04 transmission in my 03 car and the only thing I had to change was the part that bolts to the driveshaft. The 04 has a bigger one.
The gearing is very evident.
1,2,3,4 are lower 5,6 are the same.

I would like an '04 tranny better than just getting gears because it has stronger synchros, smoother shifts, and most importantly, closer gearing. Getting a 4.77 final drive will make all the gears shorter in our tranny, but the gear spacing will be the same. Imagine a '04 tranny with 4.77 final drive =D.
I.E.:
Upshift from 1st to 2nd gear in an '04 and you land right around 6000 rpm. Upshift from 1st to 2nd gear in an '03 and you land right around 6000 rpm as well. I bet you would land around 7000 rpm with an '04 tranny.

Interesting. How do you like this setup?
I had seen him respond to a thread regarding how he had picked up his 04 so I PM'ed him to ask his opinion on which he liked better...his 03 or 04. He said that his first choice would be the 00-03 car with the upgraded 04 drivetrain.
