Default 2004-2005 Honda 2.2L short block discontinued

04-05 2.2L short block assembly from Honda has been discontinued, leaving one option left.

06-09 2.2L is still available.

This news is not too bad...the only difference between the two is the trigger wheel, so just pull the timing cover and put in the wheel you need.

EVEN so, the 04-05 block was about 350 bucks more expensive anyway. If I needed an 04-05 engine, I'd order 06 and just change wheels and save 350.

So, following suit on this engine and the 2.0L, all S2000 short blocks will be gone around 2017/2018. Being that this is the last engine avail, the may not even offer it that long.

I can get them for around 3200 right now, expect it to go way up before is goes out for good.

It wouldn't be any skin off their nose to keep producing them, they just don't give a damn about the S2000 anymore.

Thanks for the updates on this stuff Billman

Just watch when the 06-09s are discontinued, the k series swap will be the swap to do if not build/sleeve a F-series from scratch

How concerning this information about the short block being discontinued should be for the ones that plan to keep the S2000 forever?

I'd be in the market for a new engine when the time comes. I'd like to keep the S until I'm too old to drive any more.

Sports cars for the common man generally are not a money maker for any car company and most Japanese car manufacturers are not about producing for what is a relatively niche segment of the customer base. I'm just glad the car was ever made and that it's still at a point where parts are still plentiful. Twenty years from now it'll be an actual scavenger hunt to try and find parts.
