I'm guilty of this in the MSM (loud ass BOV whooshes too, no chirp)

I generally shift the S above 6k unless the oil isn't up to temp; Cold oil I shift at 2.5k and gradually increase as it gets warmer.

My 3rd gear synchro is shot from the PO skipping 3rd getting on the freeway daily It grinds 99% of the time, but somehow shifts to third fine the other 1%.. I've been putting off a new trans until 3rd quits altogether, which at this point 60k miles later I don't believe will EVER happen. Still goes in fine, just grinds and is embarrassing at times...

I sincerely appreciate all the responses but no one addressed the question directly. To me it feels like the gears aren't fully meshing unless one pulls the shifter straight back into second without side pressure.

there really were answers in the responses.. and some of the best techs in the community at that... so.. if I may suggest... look into what some have written..

As Billman stated , the clutch must be depressed fully before pulling the shifter out of 1st otherwise CRUNCH ! Second gear is not forgiving in either Ap1 or Ap2 .
