gernby,
the whole point of the auto industry is planned obsolence.... they have to tell you that last's years car is not as good as this years car, otherwise they have no market.
do you honestly believe that you are entitled to updates from car model changes?
the '02 has a glass rear window, is it Hondas responsibility to send out new tops to every '00 and '01 owner? i have not gotten mine yet....
publicizing the change would help their image, the highly touted 120hp per liter is now even better! my comment was based more on the thought that it was such a small increase that they would spend more money updating all the marketting literature than they could recoup on sales of a small production run car. if they do produce a model change in '04 or '05 they can roll it into that brochure.... wait, isn't that the rumor already on other threads that this new coupe has 250 hp? call that 10hp increase at the crank and you have the 4-6hp increase people have been seeing on the '02 and '03 models.

Don't be a jerk. Read my post again. I said that the public would want it, not that the public would be intitled to it. Have you not read about all the '00-'01 owners trying to get their hands on an '02 top?
Improving performance through mechanical improvements looks a whole lot better than software changes. I think Honda would look stupid if they admitted that they were sloppy with their original software tuning.
Come to think of it ... I can think of several "scams" that '00-'01 owners could pull on AHM to get their ECU's updated under warranty.

you say sloppy, i say they tuned it to the safe side, got a couple years data, then decided they could be more aggressive to get more power and still be safe.
previous topics on the differences talked about someone trying out both ECU's on same car to prove difference, but i have not seen anyone actually do so.
by using VAFC people close the margin, i have seen posts showing '00/'01 get more VAFC gains than the '02/'03 people. if you plan on staying stock... spending the $500 for an newer style ECU might be ok.
most VAFC threads say it is not worth change narrow settings since the ECU relearns and your corrections are overcome by the ECU. without other data, i cannot see upgrading to a newer ECU with all the other mods i have for unknown effect at steady state driving.
of course, if i find a chance to pick one up cheap from a wrecked car, i might experiment just to find out for myself.

I added a statement to my post above about AHM being scammed for updated ECUs. I actually think that could be a better incentive for Honda to keep it quiet. I am one of the '02 / V-AFC owners who got smaller gains.
On another note, I wonder if the '02 ECU richens up the mixture on the #4 cylinder. I've read quite a bit lately about the #4 cylinder scoring problem possibly being related to a lean condition in the 4th cylinder. Has the #4 cylinder issue been occurring on '02s?

im glad i have a 03 then, its always a good idea to not buy the 1st or 2nd year of a model change, that way when the 3rd year comes around they have fixed most/all of the problems.

Do you think they have an ECU software update for download?
I had a Saturn that they could reprogram theatuto-tranny shifting program. They were able to change it from "always sucks" to "sometimes it doesn't suck so bad".
