Default 2002 AP1 Engine Sound 140K miles

Hi All,

My engine has been noisy lately, and I'd like some feedback on how to proceed. It doesn't sound like a knock or anything catastrophic yet so I've been driving it, it feels fine to drive but I wanted an opinion on it.

The ticking I hear is noticable at idle under the car. I also get a "card in spokes" kind of sound when I drive by areas where the sound is reflected. It is more noticeable when cold, once fully warmed up its quieter.

Tensioner is a Billman unit (from 2018) and my last UOAs have been good. Valve lash was set a few weeks back to the FSM specs, and I don't see any sunken retainers. The noise doesn't appear to be coming from the valvetrain from what I can tell.

Here are some videos taken from under the car after driving.

This one is under the front after startup, so it isn't fully warm here.

I am just hearing on my laptops crappy speakers, but most of what I hear is normal sounding (sounds like my 01 has for as long as I have had it) except maybe the sound of an exhaust leak? I think I heard that sound in there and if so, that can also create a "Tick" sound sometimes. But maybe someone else is hearing more on some better speakers. Did I mention my laptop speakers arent great? :P

Take another video, 6 feet away from front of car, eyeball height, hood closed. It is the best way to pinpoint specific noises.

Here are additional videos from the front of the car, before and after warming up.

Thanks for listening... just paranoid I guess.

I'd still like to know what the noise I hear when driving is, there is a distinct "card in spokes" kind of sound that gets better once fully warmed up. I've checked for exhaust leaks and couldn't find any, the donut gasket was replaced recently.

Is it possible that the timing chain is going out?

Likely is piston slap. I've got 230k on mine and it slaps a little bit until fully warmed up. Goes away when fully warm. It's very very very faint.

it doesn't sound like TCT as that would be constant. I'd also check the idler pulley on the belt. Just remove the belt and spin them to see if they sound crinkly/crunchy. Mine were starting to make noise and as well went away once the little bit of grease inside warmed up. But I just replaced them.
