2002 with 15k miles 4th gear popping out
This is my problem now.
I just bought this car with 14k miles on it. It's 2002 with no modification done to it whatsoever, everything is in very very good condition and when I purchased the car from the guy in texas (told me he used to be honda service rep) and under the circumstances, there was nothing wrong and it was a good deal.
we drove back from houston to atlanta without a single problem and that was 15 hour drive back.
(because I was in the highway gears 5th and 6th most of the time)
I have 16k miles on it now, it's been 2 weeks since I bought the car.
Within that 2 weeks time on daily driving to work and back home (2 miles) I had my 4th gear consistantly pop out of the gear more than 12 times.
I did some digging around and wolla~ TSB on this.

But the problem with this TSB is that it's for 2001 s2k VIN #'s
JHMAP1...1T000001 thru JHMAP1...1T009916
I have a 2002. But the problem description on the TSB is Dead on with the problem that I'm having.
I read another post from another owner who had this exact problem and it only happens in 4th gear and it's around 38mph to 50mph when it pops out and it never popped out when accelerating. only when I'm driving at a steady speed (usually around 41mph to 45 mph).
I do not have warranty on this vehicle. It expired. But I have 16,000 miles on the car!! I mean, it's almost practically new!
What would be the best step for me to take? Go talk to the honda dealership?
I love this car to death, and I've always wanted to purchase this car ever since it first arrived in the US. but with this problem now, I'm getting more dissappointed with the car each time the gear pops out.
I had an Evo which is notorious for bad transmission but I've never had any sort of problems with it at 80,000 miles, but with a s2k with 16k miles I'm having gear pop out problems...
all the other gears seem to be great and 4th gear doesn't pop out at higher RPM or when I'm getting on the accelerator.
Any help will be great. I'm in kennesaw in georgia.
Thanks!

Hmmm, I think you would have to take it up with the original owner or the guy you bought it from, Honda loves to deny a warranty claim any chance they get but the original warranty is 3yrs/36000miles so even if so, you are out of the factroy warranty range. And unless you know a good local mechanic, tranny work is outrageously expensive at a honda dealershit. Typical dealership labor charges are 80-120 an hour book time says 8.4 hours and parts i believe are in the ballpark of 400-600 dollars (figures from Sanleandro honda parts).

$600 is the price for work and parts?
I have a friend who works at a honda dealership as a tech manager.
That's my plan B, but I just read another thread with 2000 with 54k miles on 2nd, 4th gear popping out without warranty getting a rebuilt transmission from honda...

Honda fixed my '00 without question but it was still in the warranty period. Since you have very low mileage and the TSB in hand I would try to have a conversation with the dealership service manager trying for a courtesy repair.
