2001 clutch replaced to newer factory model... supposed to be loose?
I took my car in for standard service, and pointed out a transmission noise in deceleration (at the time unaware of TSB54).
The dealer told me they would upgrade the clutch to the newer model, under warranty (as per TSB54). They also replaced the flywheel, pressure plate and throwout bearing, indicating wear on them. After a bit of a circus (they hadn't assembled the shifter quite right on Friday), I finally picked up the car today.
Now, the noise is gone alright, but the car feels noticeably different. Specifically:
- The clutch is much looser than before
- The shifter got warm much faster than usual
- I smelled a bit of a burning smell, almost unlike anything I'd smelled before
Are these normal, or do you suspect they didn't put the clutch assembly together quite right? Does a new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate have a break-in period?
This dealer is good, but I don't think they have much experience working on S2000s. I'm particularly concerned because the technician they had working on the clutch hadn't done an S2000 before, and was responsible for the bad assembly of the shifter...
