Default 2 Simple Maint. Questions

Hey all. i was able to finally change my oil the other day on my 06 ap2; i was alomst 400km overdue. with my old turbo vw i changed the oil every 3000 miles w/ a full syn. now with the S i just let the car let me kno when its time to change. with that in mind how exactly does the car deteremine its time to change the oil. does it simply count a predeteremined amount of miles from the day i reset the oil minder; or does is there a sensor that is actually collecting data and will let me know when to change it.

my second question is on cleaning an air filter. my intake system has a k&n washable/cleanable filter installed. my question is: is it worth buying the cleaning solution(s) that is needed to clean it, does the intake perform as good as it did the first day it was install if it is cleaned properly, or am i better off just goin out and buying a replacement k&n or other brand filter.

Calculator, IIRC. It's a decent guide.

Clean the filter a few times. Use DI or filtered water. Should be fine.

IIRC: if I remember correctly
DI: deionized (doesn't have all the calcium carbonate that "tap" water can have)

whoa thanx i feel a little slow after that. i could theoretically race the car around town for the predetermined amount of miles the car has planned and it will not take into account how hard the car was driven. it will simply just tell me i have to change it?

I said calculator, not counter.

I think he's saying that he has an indicator on the dash or something that says he needs to change the oil? I don't believe the S2K came with that?

To the OP, I believe CKit is saying that you take whatever mileage you have and add 3000miles to whatever mileage you have so you now what mileage to change your oil at. Also depending on the life of your oil the "3000miles" would change.

The newer 06+ S2k's have an oil life indicator, it is based on time and engine rpms to determine when you should change the oil.

If you're going to keep the car for a while I'd get the stuff to clean the K&N. An oil and cleaner kit is cheap. If you get the bigger bottles they'll last for years. I still have the stuff I bought from several cars ago.
