Default 2.2 swap into AP1 Camshaft Plate Question

I did some searching and I can't find out the answer i need. I have a 2000 Ap1 and I am swapping in a 2006 2.2 engine and trans. I kept my ap1 manifold and sensors. I noticed when changing valve covers (installing Ap1 on to ap2 head) there is 2 cam sensors compared to one on the ap2. MY question is do I have to take the cam plate off the ap1 motor and switch it over to the ap2, because the exhaust cam plates are different. I am sure the intake cam plate does not have to be changed, however, I am not sure of exhaust. If anyone knows the answer that would be great. Thanks Chris

You need to use a the pre-06 valve cover, cam sensors and sensor plates to run in your AP1. The crank sensor may also be different.

Yes.

You need to install the following.

1. On both cams, remove the stock 06 trigger wheel (1) and install AP1 trigger wheels (2).
2. Replace the valve cover with a AP1 or AP2 (04-05) valve cover.
3. Install AP1/Ap2 (00-05) sensors in the valve cover.
4. Remove the crank pulley and swap the crank trigger wheel with an AP1/AP2 (00-05) trigger wheel.
5. Remove Crank sensor and install an AP1/AP2 (00-05) crank sensor.

You are also going to need to use an AP1/AP2 (00-05) engine harness to connect the sensors.

I have all of these parts spare (yes, I mean all) and I would be interested in the 06 parts that you are going to have to remove. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for the replies. I swapped the exhaust cam plate today. and checked the intake cam plate and noticed it is identical to the F20C Hey Stratocaster how sure are you that I need to swap my crank trigger wheel. I already swapped the crank sensor..I would like to avoid pulling the front cover. Also I can sell the AP2 parts that I am not using. Have a great day. Chris

From wht I understand, the trigger wheels on the crank are differant. You don't have to pull the front cover, you only need to pull the crank pully.

The AP1 sensor is an induction sensor as are the cam sensors. The AP2 (06+) are Hall effect sensors.

For that cam trigger you did not change., I would verify that the Ap1 trigger wheel is mounted the same one the cam. As the wheel may be the same, just 180 degrees out.

My info is based on research for installing the KPro from Hondata. I exchanged a few e-mails with them on the subject.

I pulled the crank pulley last night and did not see the wheel, It was late and I did not have alot of light so I will check today. I know about the cam sensors they are different, I am using my original ap1 sensors. I pulled off both cam plates on the 2.2 and I can say for sure the intake is 100% identical to the 2.0.
I put both plates on top of each other and made sure they matched up. I will have a update later today on the crank trigger wheel.

Update, The crankshaft trigger wheel is different from the AP1. The only way to take it off is to remove the front cover. Plan on removing the oil pan also to reinstall the front cover. Overall the swap went very smooth.

I just bought an AP1 with recent (last couple weeks) 2.2 swap. The PO couldn't get vtech working and I am betting it has something to do with swapping these parts over. I contacted him about getting the parts but I am not in town right now so it will have to wait a week.

So, just to be clear if I want to use the ap2 ecu, do I need to swap these parts over still, and why?

I will have to ask him exactly what he did when I get a chance but it looks like he just pulled the 2.0 long block and put the new 2.2 long block in (after blowing the 2.0). Then put in ap2 ecu and it wasn't working. I doubt he swapped over engine harnesses and whatnot, it is a bit of a goose chase right now.

Edit: just talked to PO for a minute, the engine is supposed to be off an 05 so maybe this won't apply.

Then why are the part numbers different?
