You might be able to run your oil 5-7k but it is recommended to change you filter around 3k. The cleaner the better IMO.

Remember the three jobs of oil:
Clean
Lubercate
Cool.
Not on the 1st change. Let it sit there for a little longer with the breakin stuff. I'd follow the maintenance minder for the first change.

Don't have the oil minder on my 06 (EU), but I did my first change at 4540 miles. I put in synthetic (not 10w-30 though, wanted something a bit thicker and went with 5w-40).

By the way, FISH22, 1 quart / 2k miles? I know its considered normal... but for an 06? What break-in procedure did you follow? Do you wail on it when the engine is cold? How many miles did the car have when you bought it?

Anything other than 10w30 will affect the spray pattern of the oil jets and is not recommended.

sorry, i should have clarified it. the car had 15 miles on it when i bought it. i did follow the break in procedure. and i havent burned a full quart yet...i BOUGHT a quart to top it off. i probably went through almost half a quart already.

I don't consider the maintanance manual an accessory. If you plan to have your car more than a couple of years, get this pub.
You don't necessarily have to be a mechanic to get something out of this manual.
Drawings, specs, and torque numbers are a few things that are in this manual that will give a better overall understanding of the car.
If you every attempt a self fix or mod, this manual is a must.

Ive been checking the oil level and its good. do you guys think that the oil live % will reach 0% before 7k?
I just hit 4800 miles today & the Oil Life reads 5%. Like the poster above said, the Oil Life meter % depends on how you drive.

5W-40 is recommended in my (German) European Honda owners manual to use in colder climates.
There is a difference in operating temp viscosity between the xxW-30 and xxW-40 but it isn't much.
IMO it is much more important to get the flow through the oil jets when the engine and oil are cold & warming up.
A 5W-xx or 0W-xx would do a much better job in those circumstances.
(that is why Honda recommends the 5W-40 in the cold IMO)
