1st Gear Trouble
Hey guys, I just recently bought my s2k. Its a 2003, and I bought it with 25,000 miles. Sometimes when I get on it in 1st gear, its as if it pops out of gear around 6k and over revs. Any ideas? It doesnt happen very often, probably 5 or 6 times. I don't run the car to death, but a few times when I run the car hard it has done this. Any ideas?

The synchros do not hold it in gear. More likely is a shaft or bearing out of spec that allows the gear to travel.
This is not normal or even common for the transmission, although AHM has fixed a number that did not stay in gear, mostly slipping out of fourth.
If you still have warranty coverage be sure to take it in and document the problem. It will be a fairly expensive fix and you want them to cover it.

The TSB involves replacing 1st gear, 2nd gear, hub, sleeve, and 1st and 2nd gear synchros.

Someone told me in the Mid-Atlantic forums that if the engine temp. isn't high enough that the ecu will shut me down if going into VTEC.. Not that I don't trust him, but I'd like to hear what the rest of you all think.
