Default 1st gear low rpm hesitation.

I have a 02 S2000 and I have noticed after driving for a while when I take off in 1st gear with light throttle the engine will have little power and the car will buck and jerk. No Check mil and new spark plugs. I found a Honda SB about replacing the map sensor due to high rpm hesitation. Will it fix it? or maybe the HO2 sensor? witch is 200$. Just wondering if anyone knows a for sure fix for this problem?

Mine does this occasionally. I think mainly before the engine is at operating temps?

Heat soaked intake, pretty standard.

you can try a map whack, which can remove some carbon build up in the air channel that feeds the sensor and correct some idle/hesitation problems. Alternately, you can unbolt the throttle body, and clean the channel itself. Only take a few minutes.

sounds like the typical map sensor issue...and what exactly is an HO2 sensor? I assume you mean O2 sensor which in this case, isn't causing the issue

Yep. Heat soak. Hot intake air causes this.

The best way I've found to prevent the "bucking" is to cram your right foot against the carpet next to the gas pedal and use it as a pivot point to move your foot. If you don't do this, there's an acceleration lag that makes your entire body push and pull your leg. You don't even realize you're doing this.

With your foot crammed against the carpet you can get past the initial bog, then you don't go into the bucking motion.

So glad this was answered. I was stuck in traffic on the way back from the Dragon and was worried that I might've toasted my motor! Glad to know it was just heat soak
